Shopping for Surgical Headlights?

The manager of a busy head and neck surgery center sheds some light on the 6 features that matter most.

Physicians will tell you they want surgical headlights that emit bright, focused light, but the best designs go unnoticed during surgery, says Lynda Dowman-Simon, RN, director of clinic nursing at St. John's Clinic and the OR manager at St. John's Clinic: Head & Neck Surgery in Springfield, Mo. "All surgeons want to do is plug it in, put it on and go to work," she says. "Once they put it on, they should forget that it's even there." The onus is on you to consider the features that will make that happen.
