Much of the recent talk surrounding sharps has focused on one element: safety. And deservedly so. Even though Inviro Medical's independent nationwide study of infection control directors and nurses found that most U.S. nurses (64 percent) reported being accidentally stuck by a needle while working, and nearly half (47 percent) of all nurses surveyed reported being accidentally stuck by a contaminated needle, the challenge of convincing staff and surgeons to use safety sharps remains a steep one.
