Our goal here at Lutheran Medical Center in Brooklyn, N.Y., was to reduce non-salary expenses by $1.1 million, with $150,000 of that coming out of the surgical department. Our team of nurses and physicians ended up saving about four times what we were originally aiming for, most of it, as you'll see, coming from surgical supplies.
