Great Ideas for Your OR

Not a Hair Out of Place

Not a Hair Out of Place

Halyard designed this one-size-fits-most cap with the latest surgical attire recommendations from AORN in mind: Headwear should completely confine hair and cover the scalp, ears, sideburns and nape of the neck to prevent surgical wound contamination caused by microorganisms shed from the skin and hair of surgical staff. Cover Max Surgical Caps also feature a deployable bouffant cap to contain long hair and ponytails.

Precise Spine Surgery

Precise Spine Surgery

Just months after acquiring Mazor Robotics, Medtronic has launched the Mazor X Stealth Edition for spine surgery, a platform that will make back procedures more precise by combining robotics with real-time image guidance and 3D navigation. The system, which combines Medtronic’s Stealth software with Mazor’s robotic-assisted surgery technology, offers real-time imaging feedback.

Sterile Back Table

Sterile Back Table

Back tables can be contaminated in as little as 30 minutes when exposed to air in the operating room. The Sterile-Z Back Table Cover is a barrier designed to keep instruments and implants sterile before surgery without risk of contaminating the sterile field upon removal of the back table cover.

Implant for Femoral Neck Fractures

Implant for Femoral Neck Fractures

Designed for improved angular and rotational stability, the Femoral Neck System (FNS) from DePuy Synthes combines stable fixation and a minimally invasive approach to reduce reoperations related to fixation complications. The FNS will leave a minimized footprint on the bone and a smaller incision length, says the company.

Microsurgery HD Camera

Microsurgery HD Camera

Sony’s MCC-1000MD surgical video camera delivers detailed, high-quality video, even in low-light conditions where it’s hard to place direct light within the surgical site. It’s ideally suited for such microsurgical applications as ophthalmology and neurology. A separate C-mount head lets you mount the 2-piece full HD camera on most surgical microscopes. It has several modes, including high dynamic range, and can capture surgical images with an expanded contrast range, making it ideal for viewing wet, glossy or heavily shadowed structures, says the company.

Safe Trendelenburg

Safe Trendelenburg

The Hadron (left) and Genesis Bi-Wing Trendelenburg patient positioning systems use a modular, reinforced foam-based approach that lets staff move both patient and pad together to positions like lithotomy, minimizing lifting burdens as compared to draw sheets and to lifting patients by hand.
