Fluoroscopy in the Palm of Your Hands

Fluoroscopy in the Palm of Your Hands

This micro-sized C-arm, aptly named Micro C, is the first-ever handheld fluoroscopic and digital imaging device. No more maneuvering a large machine around a small extremity — surgeons simply pull the trigger under the index finger of the "X-ray gun" to capture images, which are displayed on a portable book-sized screen, and uploadable for easy PACs integration and digital EMR documentation. Besides providing quicker, easier access to images, the 5-pound Micro C exposes patients and staff to a fraction of the radiation of traditional C-arms. FDA clearance is expected this quarter, says the company.

Infused Ketorolac

Can Continuously Infused Ketorolac Wash Away Opioids?

Momentum is building for Neumentum, which last month moved a step closer to launching the first continuously infused NSAID for acute post-operative pain. A phase I study confirmed that NTM-001, an alcohol-free formulation of ketorolac in a pre-mixed bag designed for 24 hours of continuous infusion following surgery, provides consistent, steady blood plasma levels of ketorolac, says the company. NTM-001 is being evaluated to manage moderately severe acute pain that requires analgesia at the opioid-level, potentially reducing the need for opioids.

4K UHD Widescreen Monitor With 3D Display

4K UHD Widescreen Monitor With 3D Display

This 31.1-inch widescreen monitor from Eizo combines 4K resolution with 3D-recording technology, a tandem that the company says will improve the accuracy and reduce the duration of endoscopy and microsurgery. The CuratOR EX3141-3D, Eizo's first 4K 3D surgical monitor, faithfully reproduces full HD images shot by conventional surgical and endoscopy cameras in 4K UHD (3840 x 2160 pixels) resolution — even when displaying 3D images and even in bright operating rooms, says the company.

VERA's Virtual Physical Therapy

VERA's Virtual Physical Therapy

An engaging avatar named VERA (Virtual Exercise Rehabilitation Assistant) can conduct on-demand physical therapy sessions for your patients as they recover from surgery from the comforts of home. VERA's 3D motion-capture technology, which instructs and records exercise performance, measures 26 joints and limbs in motion, 30 times per second, and provides audio-visual feedback, says the company. It also enables telehealth visits with physical therapists. Study results (osmag.net/jG9CmH) demonstrated an average cost savings of $2,745 per total knee replacement patient for those who received virtual physical therapy using VERA with clinical oversight when compared with usual care with traditional home- or clinic-based PT.

Ultrasonic-Powered Robot

Ultrasonic-Powered Robot

Ultrasonic energy now courses through the arms of the Senhance digital laparoscopic platform, letting robotic surgeons for the first time use torsional ultrasonic energy to dissect tissue from the console. The ability to cut and coagulate simultaneously with relatively low heat and limited thermal injury to surrounding structures — no electricity goes to or through the patient — will significantly expand the clinical applicability of Senhance surgery, says TransEnterix, the only market-cleared competitor for Intuitive Surgical and its da Vinci line of surgical robotics systems.

Collegiate Scrub Hats and Bouffant Caps

Collegiate Scrub Hats and Bouffant Caps

Check out Healthmark's cool collegiate line of officially licensed headwear: Michigan State University Spartans scrub hats and bouffant caps. Each cap and hat has the optional style of MSU basketball, Sparty the mascot, hockey or football. Both the disposable scrub hats and disposable bouffant caps are one-size-fits-most. The reusable scrub hats are hand-tailored from pre-washed 100% cotton fabric and machine washable. All MSU scrub hats and bouffant caps cover the head, nape of the neck and ears to confine hair, limiting it as a source of possible contamination, says the company.
