Secrets to Ultrasound-Guided Block Success

Facilities that use the technology can tout progressive pain management.

Published:March 1, 2012

Ultrasound-guided regional blocks keep the Brandon (Fla.) Surgery Center on the cutting edge of care, says Medical Director Jon Harmon, MD.

He pulls back the curtain on his center's regional anesthesia program to show how investing in an ultrasound unit led to not only potentially more effective blocks, but also improved physician and patient satisfaction, and greater facility utilization.

The future of nerve block placement will emerge from the use of imaging modalities, says Dr. Harmon, giving his center a head start on the competition in attracting young, dynamic surgeons who understand the widespread benefits of ultrasound guidance.
