Deborah Lyn Aaron, 56, a general surgeon from Santa Fe, N.M., faces drunk driving and vehicular homicide charges after the sport-utility vehicle she was operating at about 11 p.m. local time on December 30 collided with the side of a family minivan, police said.

The collision killed Juliana Reyes Vasquez, 4, a passenger in the minivan, who was in a child safety seat in the middle row. Her 3-year-old sister, also in a child safety seat, and mother were injured in the crash but survived, police said.

Dr. Aaron was arrested at the scene after police administered field sobriety tests, police said.

Dr. Aaron was employed by Christus St. Vincent Regional Medical Center in Santa Fe until about 3 years ago, says hospital spokesman Arturo Delgado. "She did not leave on her own," he says. According to her Facebook page, she currently has ties to Doctors Without Borders.
