Model, actress and TV producer Mia Amber Davis died last week at the age of 36, reportedly from a blood clot she suffered after undergoing outpatient knee arthroscopy in Los Angeles.

Ms. Davis went in for a routine procedure last Monday to address an old basketball injury but was taken to Kaiser Permanente West Los Angeles later that day because she felt dizzy, according to media reports. She was pronounced dead before 10 a.m. the next day.

Family members told E! News that the coroner believes she died "from a blood clot related to the knee surgery," although the cause of death is not yet official.

"We are just now finding this out that this is all too common and people don't know the risks of arthroscopic surgery," Mignon R. Moore, a cousin of Ms. Davis, told E!. "They need to be made aware of the risks."

Ms. Davis, a prominent plus-size model, was known for her role in the 2000 movie comedy, Road Trip.
