A multi-specialty surgery center in south Florida has placed a voluntary moratorium on patient admissions after state inspectors discovered health and safety problems at the facility.
The Gladiolus Surgery Center in Fort Myers voluntarily shut down after inspectors found issues that could endanger the health and safety of patients during a July 30 visit, according to local news reports. The facility signed an agreement with the Florida Agency for Health Care Administration to stop admitting patients until it submits a plan of corrective action to address the problems.
Exactly which violations were discovered during the inspection have not been disclosed. The state agency will make its inspection report public when the corrective action plan is approved, says a spokeswoman. Previous inspection reports from 2007 and 2009 show no deficiencies found at the Gladiolus Surgery Center, whose services include urology, plastic surgery, podiatry, orthopedics, dental and ENT procedures, according to the center's website.
The center's administrator did not return a call for comment.
