State Allows Surgery to Resume at Fort Myers Endo Center

Inspectors will revisit the facility to ensure corrective action plan is being followed.

Admissions for outpatient GI procedures resumed at the Fort Myers Endoscopy Center this week after the facility submitted an acceptable corrective action plan to deal with a number of safety violations discovered during a state inspection last month.

The Florida Agency for Health Care Administration lifted a temporary moratorium on admissions to the endoscopy center Monday, reports the Naples News.

State inspectors paid a follow-up visit to the facility last week after finding several violations of federal and state patient safety regulations during a Jan. 20 inspection. A spokeswoman for the agency says they'll do another unannounced inspection in the coming weeks to ensure the facility is following through on the action plan it submitted.

Fort Myers Endoscopy Center Nursing Director Beverly Marsland declined to discuss the action plan in detail or disclose how many surgeries had been cancelled during the moratorium, which had been in place since Jan. 21.
