CMS Affirms Joint Commission's Deeming Status

Hospitals may choose to have the accrediting body certify that they meet federal requirements.

Categories: Accrediting/Quality, News

The Centers for Medicate and Medicaid Services has renewed the Joint Commission's deeming authority for hospitals for the next 4 years, the commission announced today.

Through July 15, 2014, Joint Commission-accredited hospitals may choose to have the accrediting body deem that they've also met the requirements for CMS certification. The Joint Commission had to reapply for its deeming status for the first time in 40 years after changes to the hospital deeming authority process were passed in the Medicare Improvements for Patients and Providers Act of 2008.
