Extra Hours Boost Endo Volume

30 more minutes a day add up in the long run.

Published: October 2, 2008
Categories: Gastroenterology, News

Profiting from endoscopy depends on volume. If procedure rooms are all booked up, though, maybe it’s time to expand. Not by renovating your facility, but by stretching your schedule.

The four rooms at the Endo Center at Voorhees (N.J.) used to open at 7 a.m. until administrator Andrew Weiss, CASC, got the idea of opening them a half-hour earlier. "I got a commitment from four doctors to fill that slot on each of four days," he told Outpatient Surgery Magazine last year, "and we increased our utilization." The extra time accommodates four more cases a week, adding about 200 more cases a year to the center’s schedule.
