Cataracts have long been the fuel that powers eye surgery centers. The cases are usually short, generally profitable and almost always effective. CMS's new ASC payment system does little to change the reimbursement of ophthalmology's bread and butter; cataracts received a slight bump — an increase that works out to about $3 per case. So how should you diversify your eye service in light of cataract's relative status quo?
