How to Renegotiate a Managed Care Contract

As a regional director of managed care for United Surgical Partners International, I handle the managed care contracting for 23 ambulatory surgical centers in 4 states. I'm going to let you in on a little secret: I view an expiring payor contract as an opportunity to renegotiate the terms and rates for a new deal. Here are 5 tips I rely on to win across-the-board rate increases or additional carveouts for my centers.
