No Cell Phones in the OR
Re: "The Age of Distracted Doctoring" (January, page 4). I had to put a stop to all cell phone use in our surgery areas because I feared something tragic would happen. Luckily, nothing ever did, but it very well could have. I wasn't a popular boss, but I would never forgive myself if someone were harmed. Unfortunately, so many other departments, including administrative staff, freely text when they should be working. I cannot believe how much productive time and money is wasted by this practice. I suspect in the future there will be rules governing cell phone use in areas that serve the public.
