Could overnight care facilities signal surgery's next construction boom? Time will tell, but we'll be keeping our eyes on the small but growing number of surgery centers that are building mini-hotels for hip or knee replacement patients to recover in after surgery. In August, the 3-OR Orthopedic & Sports Institute in Appleton, Wis., opened the $3.8 million Recovery Inn, its 12 luxury suites connected to the surgical center by a corridor. The rooms are outfitted with a flat-screen TV, refrigerator, laptop, digital music player and other hotel amenities.
