Anesthesia providers soon will have a new, non-opioid method of pain control at their disposal, Ofirmev (IV acetaminophen) from Cadence Pharmaceuticals. A couple of weeks after this year's annual meeting of the American Society of Anesthesiologists in San Diego, the Food and Drug Administration approved the use of intravenous acetaminophen for treating acute pain and fever in adults and children. This will help with multimodal pain control, especially with patients who can't eat or drink.
