Paula Watkins, RN, CNOR, criss-crosses the country as a traveling OR nurse, plying her clinical skills like a road-weary stand-up comic. "People tell me I'm funny, but I never know how they're going to react to my sense of humor," she says, describing her wit as quick, dry and just this side of nasty. Any filter of politeness between her mind and her mouth has been out of order for a long time, she says, and what's the point in getting it fixed now? "It's better that way," says the Little Rock, Ark., native. "As I've gotten older, I care less and less about what people think of me."
