Strategies to Prevent OR Fires

Minimize the convergence of the ever-present elements of the fire triangle - ignition source, fuel source and oxidizer.

As many as 100 surgical fires occur each year. Will your staff react quickly if fuel, oxygen and heat combine to spark a blaze? Knowing what to do and who's responsible for what will save lives when seconds matter most. The elements of the fire triangle — ignition source, fuel source and oxidizer — are present in every OR, every day. As each element must be present for flames to ignite, minimizing their convergence helps prevent fires.
