Up in Arms Over Latest Physician-Owner Study

Like a turd that won't flush, every couple of years a new group of researchers spends good money after bad examining the relationship between physician ownership of ASCs and higher surgical volume. This time, it was a University of Michigan study that was published in the April issue of Health Affairs. When doctors become invested in an outpatient surgery center, researchers found that they perform on average twice as many surgeries as doctors without ownership interests.
