CRNA Salary Comparison Flawed
Re: "CRNA Salaries Top Family Physicians' Again" (E-Weekly, March 23). The study comparing the salaries of CRNAs to those of family practice physicians is flawed.

$189K is skewed. The $189,000 salary you cite is from Merrit Hawkins & Associates, a locum tenens placement agency that places CRNAs willing to travel in temporary positions and permanently places providers in difficult-to-fill positions. These types of practice situations are hardly typical of the average nurse anesthetist.
Illogical comparison. Why compare CRNA salaries to family physicians with entirely different supply, demand and compensation dynamics? If you want to compare advanced practice nurse salaries to the physician analogs, compare family nurse practitioners to family practice physicians and CRNAs to anesthesiologists.
