Regional anesthesia can be a tough sell. On the front end, it adds time to a case and may cost more in terms of equipment and supplies. For each block you'll need a catheter, local anesthetics, a nerve stimulator and, if your anesthesiologist uses ultrasound guidance, an ultrasound machine. But looking at the overall picture, it's clear that the potential for time and cost savings with regional anesthesia is greater than the upfront cost.
