Can you differentiate between look-alike and sound-alike drugs?
The third of the Joint Commission's 2009 National Patient Safety Goals calls for facilities to prevent errors involving the interchange of look-alike and sound-alike medications. While the Joint Commission no longer requires you review 10 such drugs each year, it's still a good idea to identify similar medications within your formulary and take the necessary steps to minimize the potential for misidentification errors when administering them. Have your staff take this short quiz to see if they can tell the difference between these similarly sounding and looking drugs.
