A 67-year-old male smoker with a history of hypertension and asthma checked into a surgery center for a 10 a.m. colonoscopy. The admission nurse charted that the patient had been NPO since midnight, except for his anti-hypertensive pill and a sip of water at 6 a.m. She also documented that he last used his rescue inhaler 6 weeks ago.
