How We Settled on a Single Skin Prep

Switching to one prep saved us $30,000 a year and simplified our infection control practice.

Chances are, each of your surgeons has a favorite skin prep, one that he's certain works best. But as with any other surgical supply, once you start accommodating each physician's preference, you're bound to wind up with every prep on the market clogging your shelves and eating up your supply budget. With a little bit of research and a lot of cooperation from your frontline staff, you can eliminate these problems by switching to one standard prep that will work with most of the cases your facility hosts. We've saved about $30,000 a year just by streamlining our preps, and our staff and clinicians have been thrilled with the change.
