How to Avoid Silent PPOs

Only in this managed care system of ours could third-party payers discount a surgeon's fee without the surgeon ever having agreed to such a discount. How can they get away with this? By creating "silent PPOs," business agreements in which managed care organizations sell or rent their directly contracted physician networks to bargain-hunting third parties, giving these other insurers the advantage of the discounted reimbursement the managed care group negotiated with the physician.
