When it comes to filling a managerial position, the decision to promote from within or to bring someone in from the outside is, for better or worse, yours to make. Just do yourself a big favor and keep your current staff informed of job openings and update them on the progress of your search. I was on the wrong end of a poorly handled hire and still shudder at the memory.
