When it comes to improving safety, your patients soon will go from being missing links to key ingredients.

JCAHO's 2007 National Patient Safety Goals encourage patients' active involvement in their own care. Effective Jan. 1, NPSG 13 focuses on patient involvement as a safety strategy. The goal also includes a new requirement that organizations "define and communicate the means for patients and their families to report concerns about safety."
