12 Medical Malpractice Traps

Even the most careful facilities are vulnerable to these hidden dangers.

Lorne Sheren, MD, JD, an anesthesiologist and lawyer, has been named in three medical malpractice suits in his nearly 30 years of practicing medicine. "Yeah, about once every 10 years," he says, and then rattles off the names of each case. The Caesarian Case (dropped). The Epidural Case (won). The Cardiac Arrest Case (pending). Yet even when you win a med mal case, he says, you've still lost.
