The temptation to take shortcuts may be especially strong in today's ultra fast-paced outpatient surgical care market. The patients are healthier. The procedures are cleaner. And the pressure to turn over cases is immense. The invisible danger of surgical site infections (SSIs) can lurk until it's too late for a wakeup call. Studies have shown that compliance with healthcare asepsis, particularly in the area of hand hygiene, still leaves a lot to be desired.
