From a public health standpoint, patients have in recent years become increasingly aware of the dangers that potentially result from deep vein thrombosis. From a clinical standpoint, however, there remains a relative lack of awareness of the necessity for prophylaxis against DVT in surgical and especially in non-surgical patients.
