New releases help prevent medication errors and wrong-site surgery.

ACCORDING TO THE INSTITUTE OF MEDICINE OF THE NATIONAL ACADEMIES, more than 7,000 patients die each year because of medication errors. Mistakes can occur anywhere in the medication-use system, from prescribing to administering a drug in a variety of settings. Such statistics prompted JCAHO to add a medication labeling requirement to the 2006 National Patient Safety Goals, and it's made quite a splash.
