Managing Fluid Waste the Right Way

Thousands of milliliters of fluid are used in an arthroscopic case, and of course, what goes in must come out. My ortho-heavy facility has been using a direct-to-drain unit for more than a year. Because it shields surgeons and staff from exposure to infectious waste, many believe that a closed system such as ours is the most effective way to manage fluid waste. But it isn't your only option. Let's explore the fluid waste management choices that you and your infection preventionist need to know about.
