Any facility that does flexible endoscopy knows how tough it is to clean and maintain the scopes. The scopes' channels tend to be extremely narrow and are routinely contaminated with all sorts of pathogens, including human blood, stool, tissue and saliva. Cleaning and high-level disinfection of flexible endoscopes can be labor-intensive and time-consuming.
