Capt. Chesley B. "Sully" Sullenberger achieved one of the most technically challenging feats in commercial aviation history when he safely ditched US Airways Flight 1549 into New York's Hudson River after a bird strike knocked out the airliner's engines minutes following takeoff. Some called it a miracle. Stephen Harden, former U.S. Navy fighter pilot and TOPGUN instructor and current president of LifeWings Partners, lauded Sully's piloting and cool calm, but stopped short of crediting divine intervention for the safe splashdown and ultimate rescue of all 155 people on board. He believes systems were in place on Flight 1549 that were perfectly designed to get the results that were produced.
