Pre-surgical patient prep & CHG showers

Are you instructing patients to do any prep prior to coming in for surgery, i.e. shower, shower with a CHG solution, shower once or twice, etc.? Is it all patients or just specific surgeries?

Yes we have a protocol to give all inpatient surgeries CHG bath the night before & early AM the day of surgery -- with clean sheets before the patient returns to bed.
We are also working on the protocol to require all scheduled OP surgeries to have the same.

We give our elective surgical patients CHG wipes to use the evening before surgery (one hour after showering) then we give them a second packet of wipes in the pre-op admission area on the morning of surgery.
We also use the wipes the evening before and morning of surgery for our inpatients as well.
