Patient selection for general anesthesia in cataract surgery

Does anyone have guidelines for patient selection regarding general anesthesia in cataract surgery at an ASC? Do you have a cut-off BMI? What other selection criteria do you use?

Currently we do have a cut off of BMI < 40. The patients are evaluated on a case by case basis. We have special days set aside for the anesthesiologist to come over to assist the CRNA's with these cases. We are looking to adjust this number. Several eye centers I have spoke with do not look at BMI.

GA for uncooperative patients of whatever reason;anxious,dementia,etc.Preop.visit mandatory;the consultant anesthesiologist decides what is needed, according to ASA /AAGBI/SIAARTI ..etc standards.;very often,if the patient is fit, nothing! If not, follow the guidelines of the scientific societies.CM,anesthesiologist.Italy.
