Adding neurosurgery at ASCs

We are looking to add neurosurgery to our center's specialties. I am looking at startup costs and the costs of implants. Anyone have any information or advice?

For safe, cost-effective positioning (head positioners, arm supports, radiolucent frames, etc.) Allen Medical offers unique alternatives that are rugged and versatile.

We bought the Zeiss Vario which was less expensive and massive than the Pentaro and allows us to do microdiscectomies. It can also be used for ENT and hands.

I have sold surgical microscopes for many years and have seen their evolution since the Zeiss NC1 in the mid 70's.
In regard to new microscopes. The Current Zeiss Pentero has a very high annual cost of ownership and the design is very dependent on the internal computer for movement of the scope. If it is not happy it shuts the microscope down and the scope will not start at times. I know if a customer who leaves it running 24/7, 365 days of the year. Zeiss is he only one who can work on the scope.

The Leica spine scope has an auto balance but does not rely on the circuit to operate the microscope. It free floats when the brakes are released and has a unique support arm to allow easy movement of the microscope optics with out moving the whole support long arm. The Leica M525 F40, OH5 and OH 4 are very good microscopes.

Refurbished microscopes can be a good value but it is important to purchase from a good supplier and check references. Contact me if you have questions.

Video (HD or standard Video) is easily attached to those microscopes.

We spent approximately 200,00 on instruments & PACU room renovations to make the private room more "homey". We use AccessMediquip for implants so we don't have any costs to the center.
