Nearly a third of my patients suffer from post-operative nausea and vomiting, despite the introduction of new antiemetic agents and significant advances in the area of PONV. This is a confounding problem, as most episodes of PONV occur after discharge, even up to 48 hours after surgery. Many of these patients didn't have symptoms while in the surgical unit. So what are we to do?
