Sterilize Surfaces With the Press of a Button

Sterilize Surfaces With the Press of a Button
Machine pumps dry hydrogen peroxide vapor into the OR. Imagine if all you had to do to sterilize every surface in your OR was press a button. No more wipes, sprays, mops or buckets. Just wheel a 3-foot-tall, 2-foot-wide, box-like machine into the OR and activate the machine via a remote control. That's just what the VaproSure Room Sterilizer from Steris promises. The unit dehumidifies the room by injecting conditioned air, conditions it with dry hydrogen peroxide sterilization, maintains the vapor at the target concentration level to deliver enough to kill microorganisms and lets the sterilant break down into water vapor and oxygen. The whole process takes less than 10 hours. VaproSure can kill bacteria — as well as viruses, fungi and spores — in enclosed spaces, says Steris. The technology has been used to decontaminate post office buildings from anthrax and to sterilize hospital rooms after the floodwaters of Hurricane Katrina receded, says the company. The VaproSure Room Sterilizer costs about $180,000. For more information, call (800) JIT-4-USE, visit www.steris.com or circle 167 on your Reader Service Card.
