High Incidence of Airway Help Needed With Propofol
It may be time to treat propofol like a general anesthetic, according to a study presented at last month's American Society of Anesthesiologists Annual Meeting in Chicago. Researchers at Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas found that 70 percent of colonoscopy patients sedated with propofol required airway interventions - and that each of these patients required at least two interventions during the procedure - suggesting that propofol may not produce mere sedation after all.
