Anterior cruciate ligament tears are among the most common orthopedic injuries, striking everyone from highly trained athletes, to weekend warriors, to people who happen to suddenly twist their knees in just the wrong way. Many surgeons are hesitant to recommend ACL reconstruction for everyone - after age 35, they'll say, it might be preferable to just deal with limited mobility and occasional instability rather than go through the hassle of surgery and rehabilitation. In our practice, however, we see a number of patients who are very active long into their 30s, 40s and beyond - and we don't feel that they should have to deal with a "trick knee."
