LettersThe article in your March 2002 issue on custom designed operating rooms was quite informative ("
How to Design a Lap/Endo Suite").
There is some additional information we would like to share with your readers on this subject. In the article, the term "endo suite" appears to generally describe operating rooms specifically designed to facilitate the performance of certain surgical procedures.
In fact, the term ENDOSUITE is Stryker Corporation's registered trademark. This term should only be used to describe an operating room that Stryker Endoscopy has designed in order to make it possible for endoscopic surgery to be performed in a surgically efficient and cost-conscious manner.
Since 1992, Stryker Endoscopy had designed and installed over 900 ENDOSUITE operating rooms, many of which are located in outpatient surgery centers.
Sincerely,
Stryker Endoscopy
CorrectionsIn the June 2002 article "How to Sell a Piece of Your ASC," we stated 70 percent of all surgeries performed in the US last year were performed in ASCs. This statistic is incorrect. According to SMG Marketing, 78 percent of all surgeries performed in the US last year were outpatient procedures, and 21 percent of those surgeries were performed in ASCs. Outpatient Surgery Magazine regrets this error.
